PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holding device which is durable, free from any wobble, compact, capable of reliably holding a PET bottle, and suitable for conveying the PET bottle. SOLUTION: A body case 1 having a guide hole penetrated in the radial direction in a lower portion of a cylindrical body, and a slide case 2 having an inner circumferential cylindrical face and an inclined face located therebelow are coaxially arranged on the outer circumference of the body case. A piston 3, a pusher 4 and a connecting rod 5 are connected to the slide case, a ball is arranged in a guide hole 7 of the body case, and a holding device to project the ball in the center direction by the inclined face 13 and the cylindrical face 12 of the slide case is constituted. After the ball is projected downward of a projecting part 11 of a neck part of a PET bottle 9 as the piston is vertically moved, the pusher is lowered from an upper portion of the PET bottle to press the upper portion of the PET bottle and to hold the PET bottle in the vertical direction and conveyed.
