PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance ejection efficiency of liquid by pressurizing liquid directly through displacement of a piezoelectric element in a specified direction when the liquid is ejected thereby reducing pressure loss. SOLUTION: The liquid ejection head 50 comprises a pressure chamber 52 communicating with a liquid ejection opening and supplied with liquid from a supply channel, and a piezoelectric element 70 constituting a wall face opposing the ejection opening of the pressure chamber 52. When liquid is ejected, liquid in the pressure chamber is pressurized through displacement of the piezoelectric element in the direction d33, and the gap formed between the partition wall of the pressure chamber and the piezoelectric element is made narrower than that during refill thus increasing fluid resistance of the liquid flowing from the pressure chamber side toward the supply channel side as compared with that during refill.
