PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and simply estimate the level of the background noise of an input voice signal without necessitating a voice detector. SOLUTION: A noise level estimation device uses a concept of a short-time frame and a long-time frame consisting of a plurality of sets of the short-time frame. First calculation means 11 to 14 calculate the short-time power y1 of the input voice signal x1 every short-time frame, respectively. Second calculation means 16, 17 calculate the minimum short-time power y2 of a plurality of short-time power y1 calculated in the long-time frame. Output means 18, 19 estimate the calculated minimum short-time power y2 as the level y3 of the background noise and outputs the level y3 of the background noise. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
