PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front light and a liquid crystal display device, capable of preventing infiltrating substances, such as water, oil and fat or dust from infiltrating from a gap between a housing and a light guide plate, and eliminating adverse effects due to the infiltrating substances on electronic components in the housing. SOLUTION: The outer peripheral edge part of the light guide plate 21 is engaged with and fixed to engaging recessed parts 42a, 42b, 42c of a support frame 40. Grooves 23, 24, 25 are formed respectively in regions which are non-lighting regions outside of lighting regions R and face engaging parts of 41a, 41b, 41c of the respective engaging recessed parts 42a, 42b, 42c to form an intrusion eliminating structure. A groove 44 continuously ranging peaks and troughs and each having serrata shaped cross-sections are provided as the groove for the infiltration eliminating structure. The intrusion eliminating structure comprises a groove 46, formed in the non-lighting region and a spacer cushion 45 arranged in the groove 46 and inserted between the groove 46 and an engaging part 47 of the support frame 40 with a prescribed pressure.
