PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus that can easily enhance contrast of brightness in a frame display image. SOLUTION: As a frame member 118e has light-diffusing property, the frame member is controlled into a uniform and achromatic desired luminance as a whole by projection of light from a projector body 14. That is, colors of the frame member 118e can be continuously changed among achromatic colors in different luminance such as black, gray and white. The frame member 118e displays an achromatic color at a reversed average luminance of an image displayed in a panel body 118d, that is, in an image display area EA1. Thereby, contrast in brightness can be enhanced in an image displayed on the panel body 118d using the contrast of brightness as one kind of optical illusion.
