An ink cartridge comprising an ink reservoir having a front, a back and a bottom, an ink supply port formed in the bottom, and an identification block. The identification block is disposed on the back of the reservoir and has a pair of parallel sides, an external face lying in a plane parallel to an ink supply port axis and a number of electrical contacts lying on the face. At least one projection is provided having a tip and extending outward from the identification block, away from the back of the reservoir toward the face.
