A transaction authorization system comprises an authorization engine (18) configured to perform an analysis in relation to a received request for authorization of a first-type electronic payment transaction and generate an authorization output based on the analysis. A first database (24) is for storing a transaction record in relation to one or more first-type payment transactions, each transaction record in the first database including a payor account identifier and time information. A second database stores (22) a plurality of transaction records for second-type electronic payment transactions, each transaction record in the second database including a payor account identifier and time information. A valuation engine (26) is configured to access the second database to determine whether the second database (22) has registered therein one or more second-type payment transactions having the same payor account as, and a later time than, a selected first-type payment transaction recorded in the first database (24), and derive and store valuation information based on a result of the determination.
