A locking system for preventing child access or other undesired access to a cabinet, cupboard or a drawer comprises a power supply configured to energise a plurality of locking mechanisms, a locking mechanism actuatable to unlock the cabinet when energised, a partially concealed switch electrically coupled between the power supply and the locking mechanism and a remote proximity actuator to be held by a user. When the actuator is brought in proximity to the switch, it causes the switch to close thereby energising the locking mechanism from the power supply and unlocking the cabinet, cupboard or drawer.
