PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an aromatic polycarbonate resin excellent in heat resistance of a molded product obtained therefrom, and the aromatic polycarbonate resin. SOLUTION: The method of producing the aromatic polycarbonate resin obtained by reacting (a) a dihydroxy compound expressed by general formula (1), with (b) a carbonate precursor, wherein Ar<SB>1</SB>-Ar<SB>4</SB>are aromatic backbones; R<SB>1</SB>-R<SB>4</SB>are each an alkyl, an alkoxy, a phenyl, an amino group or a halogen atom; R<SB>5</SB>-R<SB>12</SB>are each a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, an alkoxy, or a phenyl group; X is a direct bond, an alkylene chain, an oxyalkylene chain, a carbonyl group, an ether bond, a thioether bond, or a sulfonyl group; and n<SB>1</SB>-n<SB>4</SB>are each the average number of cycles, independently takes a value from 0 to 10, and satisfies 1≤(n<SB>1</SB>+n<SB>2</SB>+n<SB>3</SB>+n<SB>4</SB>)≤10.
