PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position correcting method of a work using a rotation opening/closing type pawl member, and a work gripping device for achieving this correcting method. SOLUTION: In the work gripping device 1, a turning member 10 can normally/reversely rotate the work 2 in a central part of the horizontal upper surface of the turning member 10, the pawl member 20 is fixed to a normally/reversely rotatable rotation shaft 52 projecting onto the turning member 10, and the pawl member 20 is normally rotated to be closed to be butted on the work 2. The pawl member 20 is arranged on the turning member 10 so that the pawl member 20 abuts on the work 2 at a predetermined deflection angleα, the pawl member 20 is normally rotated, the turning member 10 is rotated at the same angle as the deflection angleαin the direction reducing the deflection angle, and position correction is performed for butting the pawl member 20 on the work 2 at deflection angle 0.
