摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device capable of displaying a desired gradation as speedily as possible by properly compensating for the optical response property of the liquid crystal device with little degradation of a display image, a driving method of the liquid crystal device, a direct-view display device, and a projector. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal device displays an image by supplying an input image signal to a plurality of pixels. One frame period of the input image signal is divided into s display periods (s representing a natural number of 3 or above), and at least one of the s display periods is different in length from the rest of the display periods. In a part of the s display periods, a positive polarity potential is supplied to the pixel, and in the rest of the display periods, a negative polarity potential is supplied to the pixel. In the one frame period, the total time that a positive polarity potential is supplied to the pixel is approximately the same as the total time that a negative polarity potential is supplied to the pixel.
