PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a coated optical fiber from being damaged when an optical fiber cable is stripped. SOLUTION: In the optical fiber cable, a long optical fiber element part 9 is composed of coated optical fibers 3, a pair of tension bodies 5 arranged close and in parallel to the coated optical fibers 3 on both sides; a flat sheath 7 covering in the manner that the center of the coated optical fibers 3 and the center of the tension bodies 5 pass through a first plane 11; a pair of notches 23 provided, for the purpose of tearing the sheath, on both surfaces on the major sides of this sheath 7. The notches 23 are arranged diagonally to the center of the optical fiber element part 9, with the cross section shaped in an obtuse triangle. Also, in order for the tip end of the notches 23 to be situated near the end of the coated optical fibers 3, the two sides 27, 29 of the notches 23 excluding the opening part 25 are positioned outward from the notch tip ends (C, D) in the major-side direction of the optical fiber element part 9.
