An operating unit for a switchgear in which a stop position accuracy is enhanced during motor operation and a stop position accuracy (withdrawable range of a handle) is also enhanced during manual operation. Rotation of a cam shaft (5) having a cylindrical surface provided with a groove (10) engaging with a roller (13) drives the roller (13) to rotate the output shaft (11). Axial displacement for rotation of the grooved shaft (5) is eliminated in the vicinity of the stop position so that the output shaft (11) does not rotate even if the grooved shaft (5) is rotated.
