Disclosed is a separation membrane exhibiting high separation performance while having a high permeation rate at the same time. Specifically disclosed is a separation membrane comprising a porous base composed of a ceramic sintered material mainly containing alumina and a zeolite thin film formed over the surface of the porous base. This separation membrane is characterized in that the porous base comprises at least a base layer, and a foundation layer formed over the surface of the base layer as a foundation for the zeolite thin film, and the average pore size of the foundation layer is smaller than that of the base layer. |
