PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital broadcast receiver capable of returning the receiver into normal operation without making a user feel very inconvenient while suppressing cost rise even if a control program enters an abnormal state owing to trouble occurring during rewriting of the control program. SOLUTION: In addition to the normal control program to be written, an alternative control program having only a viewing function for television and a downloading function is stored in a small-capacity memory and in case of trouble, the device is made to operate with the alternative control program to download the normal control program again.
