The mechanism has a holder supported around a rack rod to be relative to the rack rod. Revolving rollers (22, 24) are supported for rotation on the holder. An axial angle of each of the rollers relative to an axis of the rack rod is larger than lead angle of a thread of the rack rod. Each of the rollers has an annular surface, which meshes with a flank of the thread of the rack rod, on an outer peripheral surface.
