PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a battery pack of lithium ion batteries as well as the existing battery packs of nickel-cadmium batteries and nickel hydrogen batteries by one tool. SOLUTION: A battery type distinction element for distinguishing the types of batteries is installed in a battery pack of lithium ion batteries and the location of its plus terminal is formed at different location from the location of the plus terminal of the battery pack of nickel-cadmium batteries and nickel hydrogen batteries. Furthermore, an electric tool which can selectively use these three types of battery packs is installed with a battery type distinction means for distinguishing the types of battery packs, and controls so as to flow a discharge current corresponding to the type of the battery pack distinguished.
