PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus and a life monitoring method that can monitor deterioration of a flash memory even if a storage area for storing a rewrite count is not set in advance. SOLUTION: A determination part 102b determines whether or not there is a cumulative rewrite count management table 22b in the flash memory 22. If there is not any cumulative rewrite count management table 22b in the flash memory 22, a creation part 102c creates a cumulative rewrite count management table 22b in the flash memory 22, and a recording part 102e records a cumulative rewrite count in the created cumulative rewrite count management table 22b. A monitoring part 102f monitors the life of a storage device 2 according to the cumulative rewrite count recorded in the cumulative rewrite count management table 22b and a rewrite count limit value recorded in the flash memory.
