PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of improving a contrast feeling which cannot be obtained by uniform light control and improving an image quality. SOLUTION: A backlight control circuit of the liquid crystal display device 11 detects a black part from a display start position of an input image signal and lowers a light control level of light sources BL1, BL2 corresponding to an upper letter box part, detects an image display part of the input image signal and sets a light control level of light sources BL3, BL4, BL5 corresponding to the image display part to an ordinary light control level, detects a display completion position from a black part of the input image signal and lowers the light control level of light sources BL6, BL7 corresponding to a lower letter box part.
