PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide easiness of setting and reliability to an optical member for performing polarization or phase difference compensation of light in a projection type graphic display device. SOLUTION: The optical member is configured by forming a protective layer such as a magnesium fluoride layer or an aluminum oxide layer by vapor deposition or another method on a light transmissive substrate of a cubic structure such as a magnesium oxide substrate, disposing an adhesive layer on the protective layer, and fixing an element layer of a polarizing element or a viewing angle compensating element.
