A method of tracing an animal product to its system or farm of origin comprising: i) obtaining a sample of the animal product; ii) genotyping the animal product utilizing a DNA marker based system to obtain genotyping information; iii) comparing the genotyping information of the animal product to a reference database which comprises DNA marker profiles of related animals unique to different systems or farms; iv) analyzing the genotyping information with the reference database to determine a system or farm of origin for the product.
