<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive compressor having an internally mounted inverter of which safety is improved. <P>SOLUTION: The compressor 1 has a motor; a compressor mechanism section driven by the motor; a first storing section 6 (housing main body) having an opening and within which the motor is stored; a second storing section 7 (cover section) mounted on the first storing section 6 and closing the opening; a fixing member 8 fixing the second storing section 7 to the first storing section 6; a controller 3 (inverter) provided on the first storing section 6 and controlling the operation of the motor; a power supply section 4 supplying power to the controller 3; a protective cover 12 covering the controller 3; and a power source control apparatus 5 stopping the power supply to the controller 3 by the power supply section 4 or performing a prescribed safety measure operation, when the protective cover 12 is removed from the controller 3.
