PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding electrode and a method capable of preventing any crack or a space from being formed in a coating or delaying formation thereof when the coating is formed on the welding electrode. SOLUTION: The welding electrode has a body having a shank and a contact region for placement against a workpiece during the welding. A portion of the body may be formed on a parabolic profile. A coating is formed on the contact region. The coating may have a first layer, and a second layer formed over the first layer. The first and second layers may have different compositions.
