PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the quality of a monochrome image from being deteriorated even in an automatic color mode. SOLUTION: The image forming device has a color/monochrome determination part 603 which determines whether an image is a colored image or a monochrome image on the basis of color information after obtaining the color information being image information from the image, a color compressor 604 and/or a monochrome compressor 607 for compressing the image information on the basis of the determination results by the color/monochrome determination part 603, and a monochrome information acquisition part 602 for acquiring monochrome information from the image information. When the determination result of the color/monochrome determination part 603 shows that the image is the colored image, the image information is compressed by the color compressor 604 on the basis of the color information. When the determination result of the color/monochrome determination part 603 shows that the image is the monochrome image, the image information is compressed by the monochrome compressor 607 on the basis of the monochrome information acquired by the monochrome information acquisition part 602.
