PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium for a magnetic scale capable of obtaining high environment properties, workability and durability by preventing generation of hydrochloric acid gas and improving coating film strength and the like and simultaneously obtaining high reproducing output characteristics by securing dispersibility of a paint and improving calender workability and the like and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The medium 10 for the magnetic scale is constituted of a magnetic layer 14 and a protective layer 16 which are laminated on a non-magnetic supporting body 12. A binder contained in the magnetic layer 14 consists of only two or more polyurethane resins containing at least a polyurethane resin A having 70 to 85°C glass transition temperature by 60 to 80 wt.% of the binder and a polyurethane resin B having 0 to 30°C glass transition temperature by 20 to 40 wt.% of the binder and at least one polyurethane resin of the two or more polyurethane resins has a polar group. A polymer resin which constitutes the protective layer 16 consists of only a polyurethane resin having≥70°C glass transition temperature. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
