PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: in a semiconductor device in which memory cells requiring refresh operation are arranged in a matrix form, short retention time memory cells exist, and this fact reduces a yield. SOLUTION: A refresh method and the semiconductor device enable suppressing of internal power source drop which poses a problem during doubling refresh by changing a doubling refresh performance means by a refresh command mode (distributed refresh or intensive refresh).
