PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitting device and a relay device which can transmit data in response to a transmission band on a network, information on a device connected to the network, and the status of a transmission medium. SOLUTION: A hard disk recorder 2100 employs the transmission protocol of TCP/HTTP (SP3011) because it is connected to the relay device 2101 with a wired medium. The relay device 2101 is connected to a digital television 2102 through a radio medium, and accordingly uses the transmission protocol of UDP/RTP (SP3012). The hard disk recorder 2100 transmits encrypted content data by TCP/HTTP to the relay device 2101. The relay device 2101 converts the protocol for the received data from HTTP to RTP (SP3017), and transmits the data to the digital television 2102 by UDP. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
