PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarized-light irradiating device that can keep maximum incident angle of light incident on a polarizing element to be small, and that shows little changes in illuminance distribution within an irradiation region, even if the light source is tilted and irradiated. SOLUTION: A light irradiating section 11 is constituted of a plurality of light irradiating units 10 arranged in a width direction of a photoalignment layer 20, each unit comprising a light source 4 comprising a lamp 1 and a reflection mirror 2 and a polarizing element 3 polarizing the light from the light source. The irradiation units 10 of the irradiation section 10 are arranged, in such a manner that polarized light exiting from adjoining irradiation units overlap each other, to form one irradiation region. The photoalignment layer 20 is moved within the irradiation region and irradiated with polarized light to carry out a photoalignment processing. A lighting power supply for lighting each irradiation unit 10 is provided in each irradiation unit so as to independently perform emission and halting of polarized light and control of light intensity. By providing a mechanism for tilting each irradiation unit 10, the photoalignment layer 20 can be irradiated with light from an oblique direction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
