<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating type optically compensating sheet which contributes toward improving the frontal contrast of a liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: The optically compensating sheet has a transparent support 11, an alignment layer 13 on the support and an optically anisotropic layer 12 formed on a surface of the alignment layer from a composition containing at least one polymerizable liquid crystal compound and at least one ultraviolet absorber which inhibits a polymerization reaction, wherein frontal retardation (Re) of the optically anisotropic layer is not 0, and a retardation value measured by making light having a wavelength λ nm incident from a direction tilted at +40° to a normal direction of the optically compensating sheet with an in-plane slow axis as an axis of tilt (axis of rotation) is substantially equal to a retardation value measured by making light having a wavelength λ nm incident from a direction tilted at -40° to a normal direction of the optically compensating sheet with an in-plane slow axis as an axis of tilt (axis of rotation). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
