PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to prevent cohesive failure from developing at the time of varnish feeding and realize the thick coating the varnish with no ununiformity. SOLUTION: This coating device is equipped with an ink fountain roller 3, to which the varnish is fed by a varnishing device 2, a coater plate cylinder 4, to which the varnish is fed by opposing against the ink fountain roller 3, a coater impression cylinder 5, which coats paper S to be conveyed with the varnish at its countering point B with the coater plate cylinder 4, and a smoothing roller 6, which opposes against the countering point C locating to the downstream side in the rotating direction of the coater plate cylinder 4 from the countering point A between the ink fountain roller 3 and the coater plate cylinder 4 and to the upstream side in the rotating direction of the coater plate cylinder 4 from the countering point B between the coater plate cylinder 4 and the coater impression cylinder 5.
