PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten working time from disassembly of a roll from chocks until a roll is again assembled when performing machining for repairing a worn roll without necessitating the modification of the chocks themselves and to prevent defective quality caused by the instability of the chock during rolling. SOLUTION: This device is for shifting the vertical roll axis of the universal rolling mill having a pair of upper and lower horizontal rolls 5 and a pair of right and left vertical rolls 6 arranged on the axis diagonally crossed with the axis of these horizontal rolls. In this device, axial center shifting tools 10 for shifting the chocks 7 of the vertical roll 6 in the rolling direction are arranged on columns of the rolling mill. In this way, the shifting of the axial center of the vertical roll of the universal rolling mill is performed without lowering the working rate of a manufacturing line and the frequency of liner changing by wear is reduced by preventing backlash by the wear of the liner.
