PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic toner having improved stability to light, etc., and ensuring little change in the wavelength band of an absorbable spectrum before and after fixing. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic toner contains an organic cationic dye having a polymethine chain, wherein a counter ion of the organic cationic dye is a metal complex-based organic compound containing a mercapto group or a disulfide group. Alternatively, the electrophotographic toner contains a dye in which the organic cationic dye and the metal complex-based organic compound containing a mercapto group or a disulfide group are integrated in equimolar amounts.
