The present invention relates to a method for isolating thiolated newly transcribed RNA (NT-RNA) from a biological sample comprising (a) providing a biological sample from a subject, wherein a thiolated nucleoside or a precursor thereof has been administered to said subject prior to collecting said sample and (b) isolating thiolated NT-RNA from said biological sample. Moreover, the present invention relates to a method for analyzing NT-RNA comprising the steps of the aforementioned method and a further step of analyzing NT-RNA based on the thiolated NT-RNA isolated from said biological sample. Finally, the present invention relates to the use of a thiolated nucleoside or a precursor thereof for the manufacture of a diagnostic composition for diagnosing an alteration of NT-RNA in a subject.
