An image processing apparatus and an image processing method are provided to perform the printing process at a high speed by performing a screening process through application of rational screen and irrational screen. A color separating unit(110) converts a continuous tone color image into plural middle images corresponding to plural colors. A first screening unit(120) divides a first middle image of the plural middle images into plural first screen cells, and performs the half-toning of the first screen cells. The first screen cells correspond to plural unit print regions and have the uniform size and shape. A second screening unit(130) divides a second middle image of the plural middle images into plural second screen cells, and performs the half-toning of the second screen cells. The second screen cells correspond to plural unit print regions and have the different size and shape.
