PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration isolation device having simple construction for suppressing vibration more effectively in the horizontal direction than in the vertical direction. SOLUTION: The vibration isolation device 10 comprises a lower plate horizontally fixed and arranged thereonto, an upper plate horizontally arranged above the lower plate at a certain space therefrom for supporting a supported object such as a structure, a viscoelastic body for connecting the lower plate to the upper plate, and compression coil springs vertically arranged between the lower plate and the upper plate. The coil springs are arranged in a plurality of pairs point-symmetrically around a center line vertically extending from the lower plate to the upper plate at equally angled spaces.
