<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light emitting device having an excellent life characteristic maintaining optical characteristics even if it is used for a long time. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting device 1 is mounted on a mount MT connected to a lead electrode 21 for supplying a driving current to the light emitting device 1, and the light emitter thereof is mounted in face to face with the side opposite to the mounting surface of the mount MT. The lead electrodes 21 and 22 extend in the direction opposite to the light emitting direction from the light emitting device 1. The light emitting device 1, the mount MT, and a wire WR are completely covered with a transparent sealing resin member 3, and part of the lead electrodes 21 and 22 are externally projected from the sealing resin member 3.
