PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a treatment liquid having always stable and excellent liquid quality to be obtained since an ammonia-containing liquid can always be treated stably. SOLUTION: An apparatus for treating the ammonia-containing liquid carrying out biological denitrification of ammonia in the ammonia-containing liquid includes a nitrification tank 12 for nitrifying ammonia in the ammonia-containing liquid into nitric acid by nitrification bacteria, and an anaerobic ammonia oxidation tank 14 for carrying out nitric acid reduction treatment which reduces nitric acid yielded in the nitrification tank 12 into nitrous acid by heterotrophic denitrification bacteria serving the organic substance in the ammonia-containing liquid as a hydrogen donor, and simultaneously denitrifying nitrous acid generated by the nitric acid reduction treatment and ammonia in the ammonia-containing liquid.
