PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a commutator that can improve the state of sliding between a brush and the commutator to suppress the generation of sparks and furthermore lengthen the life of the commutator. SOLUTION: In the commutator 1, the coil of a rotor is electrically connected with it, the brush is brought into contact with its segment, and the rotor is thereby supplied with power. A slit 4 is filled with an insulating ink 8 to substantially the same level as that of the segment 3. The back surface of an optically transparent substrate 2 is irradiated with ultraviolet rays, and an insulating member 5 is thereby accurately formed in the slit 4. Since the slit 4 is filled with the insulating member 5 whose height is substantially the same as that of the segment 3, the jumping of a brush 10 is suppressed when the brush 10 passes the slit 4, and the life of the commutator 1 is lengthened.
