<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of smoothly performing the printing operation by avoiding a case that a consumption amount of a consumable reaches its upper limit in the way of printing, and an image forming system. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is so constituted that a threshold which is lower than an upper limit value of the number of usable recording paper sheets by a predetermined value is set and a user can be notified of a residual amount of the usable recording paper sheets when the consumption amount of the recording paper sheets exceeds the threshold. In the case where an upper limit is set to a consumption amount of a consumable of a printer, for example the number of consumption amount of recording paper sheets, a user conducting the printing may confirm that, for example, the consumption amount of the recording paper sheets reaches the upper limit when he or she confirms that the printing of a produced document is in the way thereof or he or she receives a notice that outputting is impossible. Thus, when the consumption amount of the consumable reaches the upper limit during the printing, the printing is once interrupted, and then a necessary countermeasure (for example, resetting of the upper limit) is taken, and then the printing is restarted.
