PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal-aligning film which has high voltage retention rate, high reliability and good pre-tilt angle process condition dependency. SOLUTION: This diamine compound represented by the general formula (I) [R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a 1 to 12C alkyl, a 1 to 12C haloalkyl or a halogen; X, Y are each independently one of divalent bonding groups represented by the general formulae (a) to (d); Z is one of the groups represented by the general formulae (a) to (d) or an oxygen atom; (a) is an integer of 0 to 4].
