PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for decreasing a step difference among resolutions by using electronic zooming to interpolate an interval of magnifications of optical zooming by taking into account the resolutions. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus including an imaging element for acquiring image data by converting an image optically formed into a photoelectric conversion electric signal is provided with: an optical magnification means (lens moving control system 108) that has at least two magnification factors W, T (W<T) being discrete to each other and optically changes a magnification factor of an image formed to the imaging element; an overall magnification setting means 100 that sets a prescribed magnification factor M (W<M<T) as a magnification factor of an outputted image; and an electronic magnification means (a homogeneous processing / filter processing section 103, a magnification processing section 105, a read region / rule setting means 107) that controls whether magnification processing is applied to an image with the magnification factor W formed by the optical magnification means to generate an image with the magnification factor M or the reduction processing is applied to an image with the magnification factor T formed by the optical magnification means to generate an image with the magnification factor M when the image with the magnification factor M is obtained.
