PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder which has an ink cartridge setting part constructed flat and enables easy attachment and detachment of an ink cartridge, and to provide an ink cartridge which is compact, made flat and can be attached and detached easily. SOLUTION: A recorder body comprises a hollow needle 82, a cover 130 which covers the hollow needle, a lever 150 and a projecting wall 120 which make the cover openable, and a sensor part 170 for an ink residual quantity. The lever 150 and projecting wall 120 are set at one side, and the sensor part 170 is set at the other side via an extension-direction axis of the hollow needle. The ink cartridge comprises an ink supply port 260 which connects to the hollow needle, a first recess 240 which stores the sensor part at one side of the supply port 260, and a second recess 236 which stores the projecting wall 120 at the other side. A light-shielding member inserted in the sensor part 17 is projected into the first recess 240 when the ink cartridge is set.
