PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing sulfide phosphor which can prevent oxidative deterioration of a surface caused by reaction between aluminum sulfide and water when a sulfide phosphor material containing aluminum sulfide is mixed and ground, and does not hinder sintering process of the sulfide phosphor material after mixing and grinding. SOLUTION: According to the manufacturing method, mixing and grinding of sulfide phosphor material containing aluminum sulfide is done in a fluorine liquid which is liquid at 0-40°C and has a boiling point at 75-160°C. Preferably, the fluorine liquid is at least one kind selected from among a perfluorocarbon, a hydrofluoroether, a hydrochlorofluorocarbon, and a hydrofluorocarbon. Powders obtained by mixing and grinding the sulfide phosphor material are dried under inert gas atmosphere or in vacuum, and then sintered at 950-1,050°C under inert gas atmosphere to give sulfide phosphor.
