Provided is a method for refluxing an organic material in the preparation of terephthalic acid to reduce the amount of steam supplied to an azeotropic distillation tower and to improve the stability of the inside of an azeotropic distillation tower. An organic material is refluxed by using an apparatus provided with an azeotropic distillation tower(100) which recovers acetic acid by azeotropic distillation from the by-product containing water and acetic acid generated in the preparation of terephthalic acid; a condenser(110) which condenses the vapor organic materials discharged from the upper part of the azeotropic distillation tower; and a separation drum(120) which separated the liquefied organic material and water, wherein the apparatus is provided further with a heat exchanger(140) which cools the acetic acid generated at the lower part of the azeotropic distillation tower, the high temperature acetic acid is flown into the tube side of the heat exchanger, and the low temperature acetic acid separated at the separation drum is flown into the shell side of the heat exchanger so as to preheat the organic material and to reflux it to a dehydration tower.
