A device and a method for retrieving image data are provided to facilitate retrieval of the image data and protect privacy by generating a barcode including image data information according to an image printing request, printing the image data including the barcode, and retrieving the image data with the printed barcode according to an image data retrieval request. A processor generates an ID code including information for the requested image data according to the image data printing request, stores the image data information and the ID code, and prints the requested image data to a printing sheet by including the ID code. A retriever(104b) retrieves the image data by reading the ID code included in a printed image according to the image data retrieval request. The image data information includes at least one of name information assigned to the image data, size information of the image data, environment information generating the image data, and retrieval ranking information for the image data.
