A volume hologram recording material for forming of a volume hologram recording film that is highly sensitive, excelling in after-recording storage stability and that exhibits a large refractive index difference between interference fringes, being desirable as a data recording system; and a volume hologram recording medium utilizing the same. There is provided a volume hologram recording material comprising a polymer matrix of three-dimensional crosslink structure having multiple reactive groups, the polymer matrix capable of recording interference fringes produced by coherent light interference by a difference of refractive index, wherein no polymerizable monomer is contained as a constituent component thereof.
