PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly detect incidental information not only in a recorded area of an optical disk but in an unrecorded area as well. SOLUTION: The optical disk driving device performs recording/reproducing of the information by irradiating a light spot with light and detects the incidental information of the optical disk wobble-recorded on a track by making a luminous flux follow up the track on the optical disk. The device is equipped with a kind discriminating means for discriminating the kind of the disk and a sample-hold off means of the incidental information. The sample-hold off means detects the wobble-recorded incidental information by disabling the sample hold in detecting the incidental information during recording of the phase change type disk.
