Installation for producing demineralized water comprises a reverse osmosis unit (U1) followed by a water softening or complete demineralization unit (U2), where the concentrate from U1 is softened in U2 and the softened water from U2 is recycled upstream of U1. An independent claim is also included for a process for producing demineralized water by means of an ionstallation as above.
