The method involves providing a load-carrying unit on a lift mast of a fork-lift truck to regulate the lateral, inclination and/or angular positions of a load carrying unit. The unit height and load weight are measured continuously. The maximum acceleration/deceleration and/or the maximum speed of drive increases with decreases in unit height and load weight to form an interlinking function based on the unit height and weight.
