PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive data processor of high reliability capable of preventing the reliability from getting low, even when using a memory chip having 16 bits of width, and a memory correction method therefor. SOLUTION: In this data processor of adding one check code in every one word data when writing a data into a memory 10 and when reading out the data from the memory 10, parity data are used as the check code, the parity data of the data 3 are generated by a parity generation circuit 5 and the data 8 are written to the parity data addition memory 10 when the data 3 are written in the memory 10, the data 12 and the parity data 11 accompanied to the data 12 are read out and the data 12 are checked 15 by the parity data 11 when reading out the data from the memory 10, and the data are corrected by a modifier circuit 18 to be transferred to a host 1, when an error exists.
